Each year, 3,000 small businesses in approximately 200 New Hampshire communities benefit from the counseling and educational programs offered by the NH SBDC, an outreach program of the UNH Whittemore School of Business and Economics.
The NH SBDC’s services are offered in regional offices and satellite locations. Specialized assistance is provided through program offices in the areas of manufacturing assistance, environmental compliance, and economic and technology development.
NH SBDC's full-time certified business advisors provide one on one long-term management counseling to small businesses. Entrepreneurs seek advice on how to improve operations, attract capital, or bring new products to market, while others want to launch new ventures or purchase an existing business.
Educational programs are offered around the state on topics such as Business Basics, QuickBooks, and health and safety issues. Web-based programs for business owners are currently in development.
The NH SBDC also offers specialty programs for New Hampshire entrepreneurs: the Environmental Management Program, the MIT Enterprise Forum, the Office of Economic Initiatives, the Restaurant Initiative, and the Business Clinic.
Since 1984, more than 39,000 entrepreneurs representing 18,000 businesses have been helped by the NH SBDC.
- Client companies come from all sectors and range in size from small companies with several employees to manufacturing companies employing one hundred or more. The clientele is diverse—with a greater concentration of woman- and minority-owned businesses than in the general population.
- NH SBDC counselors are experienced business owners or managers, and have been certified through the New England SBDC Professional Development Program.
- As part of 64 SBDC programs nationwide, the NH SBDC was fully accredited in 2006 by the Association of Small Business Development Centers.
