Donald Byrne – Co-Host
President and CEO, Biz Prep Consulting. Faculty Member at Boston University, UNH, and MIT
An entrepreneur and former venture capitalist, Don Byrne is an internationally recognized expert on business continuity and regulatory compliance. He managed the successful turn-around of four venture-funded companies, all of which he helped return to profitability. His experience includes extended assignments in Brazil, Oman, Egypt, Mongolia, and most of Western Europe. Today, Don works with Fortune 100 companies and governments worldwide helping them manage their regulatory exposure and achieve business resiliency.
His latest venture is the consulting and training firm – Biz Prep Consulting. LLC. Don serves as a technical advisor to the American Red Cross, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
An adjunct professor at Boston University, Don teaches graduate courses in risk management, business continuity planning, disaster recovery, and regulatory compliance. He lectures at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and teaches business courses in entrepreneurship at the University of New Hampshire. From 2011 to 2014, Don was a Senior Fellow at the Stephenson Disaster Management Institute at Louisiana State University (LSU) where he conducted research on business and community resiliency.
A veteran, Don is a graduate of the U.S. Army Chemical and Biological Warfare School. He holds nine professional certifications including one in business continuity planning (CBCP). Don is an ISO Lead Auditor. His academic credentials include degrees in mathematics, philosophy, and international marketing.
Andrea O’Brien – Co-Host
Director, Business Sustainability Program & Business Advisor – NH Small Business Development Center
Andrea O’Brien helps NHSBDC clients form stronger companies by helping them identify areas of risk in their environmental/sustainability protocols and practices. Ultimately, she helps businesses refine their management practices to help the client achieve sustainable business operation. She has been with the NHSBDC for 15 years. Andrea has helped many small businesses and identify solutions through on-site assessments and training. She has served business and industry in the field of environmental compliance and management efficiencies for 25 years through her work at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, and as a consultant for financial institutions requiring environmental assessments on non-performing loan portfolios. She has worked as Senior Associate Engineer at IBM and developed that company’s hazardous waste management program in Burlington, Vermont and Poughkeepsie, New York. She is a Certified Business Advisor and has a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Maine-Orono.
